Acre was build 4000 years ago, making it to be the ancient port city in the world. For thousands of years Acre was the main entrance gate to the Holy Land and as such, many tried to conquer it leaving their influence on the city.
From European crusaders who come to conquer Jerusalem. To Mamluks who brought the city to its ruin to Napoleon who wanted to build an empire in the east but failed.
Strolling Acre alleys is a fascinating mixture of the three major religions. Muslim muezzin calling it's prayers, along with church bells and Jewish influence.
The market is a wonderful experience of authentic merchandise, colors and aromas. Don’t miss the sweet marmalade and yummy knafe. (an Arabic sweet dish).
